Ilkari achieves SS 564 Sustainable Data Center Certification for its TIA-942-C Rated 3, Colombian data centre

Dublin—16 January 2025—Ilkari, the first truly sovereign technology company, announced today that it has achieved the SS 564 sustainable data centre certification from EPI.

SS 564 is the green data centre standard that helps organisations establish the systems and processes necessary to improve their data centres’ energy efficiency. The SS 564 was originally designed to meet Singapore’s stringent green energy regulations. It is modelled after the ISO 50001 standard on energy management. The SS 564 defines a set of performance metrics for data centres to measure their energy efficiency. These metrics provide a common benchmark to help data centres to track their performance and improvements.

The demand for energy from artificial intelligence (AI) is exploding and has led to a significant increase in data centre power, environmental impact and water usage. Worldwide, AI data centers’ annual power consumption is expected to reach 90 terawatt-hours by 2026, roughly a tenfold increase from 2022.

Colombia generates as much as 75 percent of its electricity from renewable sources—more than twice the global average and significantly more than the 60 percent in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Clean energy sources like solar power, wind energy, geothermal energy, and battery storage are increasingly being utilized in Colombia to counter the high energy demand of data centres.

Ilkari’s modern data centre in the Tocancipá Free Trade Zone near Bogotá, Colombia has added the SS 564 to its growing list of industry-leading certifications. SS 564 allows our data centre to operate with a reduced carbon footprint while meeting customers’ power needs through renewable resources like hydropower.  Our data centre in Colombia also has Colombia’s first DCOS (Data Centre Operations Standard) Maturity Level 3 and TIA-942-C Rated-3, which offers regulatory compliance and operating flexibility.

“The SS 564 sustainability certification demonstrates that our Colombia data centre adheres to stringent sustainability standards, optimizing energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact,” said Bob Wright, Chief Data Centre Officer.
