Don’t be lucky. Be certified.

We don’t trust luck, especially for our data centres. We design them to avoid risks.

At Ilkari, we invest time and effort in getting certified. This shows we have robust protocols for operations training, energy use, security, and more.

Our new data centre, built with Huawei in the Tocancipá Free Trade Zone near Bogotá, Colombia, is a standout. It has the country’s top certifications. It’s the first in Colombia to achieve both DCOS (Data Centre Operations Standard) Maturity Level 3 and TIA-942-C Rated-3.

What does this mean for our customers? It offers peace of mind. With maximum reliability and availability minimising risk, our data centre is one of the most dependable in the industry. It has backup systems for power, cooling, and data. We also have plans to keep things running smoothly when undergoing maintenance procedures.

Being certified means we offer the best-in-class performance, reliability, and security. It assures customers that their operations are safe with us or that they have complete control at all times.

None of this is down to luck. It is down to meticulous planning.

What does certification mean?

Gaining a certification from a body such as the EPI means it is recognised internationally. It truly reflects the data centre according to those standards, covering facilities, infrastructure, operations, sustainability, and security.

Any customer looking for a data centre can determine its reliability and accessibility based on its certifications. For instance, they can check how the facilities are designed and be assured that all infrastructure components have been properly implemented.

If a data centre has certification at maturity level 3, it means it is run with the right processes and procedures that are documented, implemented, and monitored with appropriate KPIs to ensure that these procedures are carried out correctly.

Joséba Calvo, Managing Partner of EPI Americas, says: “A certification indicates that the data centre is not run by luck. Additionally, as the world increasingly values sustainability, certification also reflects that the data centre is efficient and has processes and procedures to improve efficiency year after year in various aspects, such as energy consumption, cooling, and emissions. These elements are key.

“Besides, there is the topic of security; how can I be sure that the data centre is secure? With the relevant certifications, you can be sure that the data centre is secure and that their data is truly protected.”

Future trends

Certification is pointing to three key trends as we move into the future. These are;

Efficiency: We need to be efficient to ensure that we use energy, water, and resources properly and effectively.

Proper processes and procedures: We must have the right processes and procedures with the appropriate maturity level to ensure efficiency. With the right processes, we will ensure efficiency.

Staff training: We need to ensure that staff are trained properly to perform their jobs effectively.

Ilkari constantly emphasises data sovereignty and sustainability in our operations. Our facilities use advanced technologies such as Huawei’s FusionModule2000, which is designed for improved energy efficiency through features like hot and cold airflow isolation. This modular, smart system also enhances power management and fault detection, ensuring continuous operation with minimal environmental impact.

We also use modular UPS systems for uninterrupted power supply and have a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.4, indicating efficient energy use. These certifications and technologies ensure that we offer secure, reliable, and eco-friendly data services.

Doing the right thing

  • Certification is straightforward for companies that follow best practices. Ilkari has invested in this long-term goal.

  • Design: We meet international standards, ensuring data safety in all our data centres.

  • Facilities: Post-construction, we ensure compliance of our constructed facilities according to standards.

  • Process implementation: We document, implement processes and monitor them with KPIs.

  • Sustainability: We focus on improving energy, water use, emissions and waste.

  • ISO 27001 certification: We’re on track for ISO 27001, ensuring top-notch data security.

  • Staff training: Our team is trained to excel in their roles, focusing on competences and skills and having a roadmap for each individual.
